Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad
Managed by Kansas City Parks & RecreationThe Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad is an all volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. The group was formed in 1984 when the Kansas City Parks & Recreation Department asked for volunteers to restore and operate the former Kansas City Zoo train that had been in Swope Park. We now have three trains.
For just $1.00 per ride you can have a true railroad experience as part of a day in the park. Buy your ticket at the Depot, pick your seat, get your ticket punched, and help holler "All aboard." Hear the horn sound, the engine growl, and the clickety clack of the rails. Feel the wind and scream in the dark tunnel. Hear the crossing bells and see the cars stop for you. Lift your feet over the bridge. Ease into the station and get in line for another ride.
You can charter the train for birthdays and other special events on weekdays for $95 an hour. Coordinate with the Park to include other activities. Details on website.
Walking distance from Frank Vaydik Park and Line Creek Community Center, as well as the most scenic area of the Line Creek Trail, the Miniature Railroad is an ideal weekend destination for the entire family. You can also enjoy an outdoor swimming pool and indoor skating rink. Concessions available at the community center
